Private Bitcoin Wallets To Use After Questionable U.S. Crack-Down

The world of Bitcoin privacy wallets was rocked this week as U.S. authorities cracked down on two prominent services. Samourai Wallet’s founders were arrested and charged. Also, Phoenix Wallet announced it will terminate services for US users on May 3rd, removing its app from US stores, citing regulatory uncertainty around self-custodial Lightning wallets.

Here are some good replacements for those services:

  • Sparrow is a desktop-only Bitcoin wallet available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It offers broad support for popular hardware wallets like Coldcard, Trezor, and Ledger. Sparrow supports single-sig and multi-sig setups and can connect to your own Bitcoin Core node or public Electrum servers.
  • BlueWallet is a mobile Bitcoin wallet designed for both iOS and Android platforms, focusing on security, ease of use, and integration with the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
  • Zeus is an open-source, self-custodial Bitcoin lightning wallet for mobile devices. Zeus requires that you have your own lightning node though.
