Listed here are some good alternatives to Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram.
I should note that the Reddit alternatives tend to be uncensored, and many tend to be inhabited by racists and conspiracy enthusiasts — for example Voat and Gab.
The Reddit alternatives listed below seem to have reasonable moderation, but I do not necessarily endorse the content that appears on them.
- Sociall: an Instagram replacement that uses a blockchain — “share your story without sharing your user data”
- Mastodon: A twitter replacement that is community owned and ad-free — see also the site for the overall project
- Minds: A user-oriented Instagram alternative — open-source and encrypted
- Hacker News: A nice minimalist site that covers technology topics
- Ello: A social network for artists and content creators
- Saidit.Net: A Reddit alternative for “uncensored discussions” — a mixture of interesting content, edgy stories & conspiracy theories
- Tildes: A Reddit style site that mostly covers technology and geek topics (currently invite only)
- Raddle.me: A news-oriented discussion site
- Frendica: A decentralized social network
- Notabug: A decentralized peer-to-peer Reddit alternative
- Lobste.rs: A Hacker News style site that focuses on programming and technology (requires invite to join)
Patrollin.com is an independently ran social network (Twitter/Instagram Replacement). Android App is coming out soon and we would love to have you on the platform! (would also love to be added to your list).
Looks good — I will be testing it soon.
Discussions.app is A decentralized on chain network that is free to use, private and employs opt in delegated moderation that preserves user choice at all times.
Sounds interesting — I will check it out.
