Me again – I am surprised that you’d recommend Plex over Jellyfin. Plex has become a bloated monster because they decided they were a streaming service and not a self-hosted platform for content, pirated or otherwise. I had Plex for a few years but switched to Jellyfin last year and it’s been a better experience overall. Is it just because Plex may be easier for the mass-market?

In reply to james caldwell. I have looked at that option... it's not recursive as far as I know, alas. My system is ahead of 99% of home networks out there already but it would be cool to fully encrypt everything I can. Thanx!

In reply to Drake. Drake, I've recommended AdGuard Public DNS in previous articles. In your case, maybe you could configure Unbound as a DoT forwarder, using OPNsense’s “DNS over TLS servers” field or a custom Unbound config. Then keep Pi‑hole in front for local filtering.

Thanks for all the work over the years. I don’t recall you ever including any DNS recommendations in your privacy-friendly articles? Any suggestions? I run PiHole + UnboundDNS in OPNsense and it works well… but the recursive requests that go out on port 53 are all unencrypted plaintext. There seems to be no solution until the authoritative serves start offering DoT or the like? Thanx.

I tried to use it last Saturday. It was a horrible, horrible experience.
Download speed was slow and often dropped to zero. Some websites not
loading until I reconnected. I tried various servers. Some of which
disconnected me after being connected for a while and then told me my
credentials were no longer valid. I used both the application as well
as the OVPN file.
