I needed to go back to other sources for some terminology like fiat currency (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_money) and smart contracts but I got the idea of what is the backing for these currencies. It seems one acid test for these currencies is their ease of getting your coins back into USD? To be able to do that, the issuing organization has to have regulated financial relationships and hence some independent auditor. I think i will try some of your recommendations. thx.
